HTML - tutorials

There are plenty of HTML tutorial sites around, what really suits you may be more a question of tone as much as content. Just be aware that some have been around for a long time, and may cover only HTML 4, while not even mentioning XHTML. This need not be a problem for beginners though, as the fundamentals don't differ that much - the devil is in the detail.

HTML.net Pretty obvious URL, eh? Tutorials aimed squarely at beginners. We all have to start somewhere.

HTMLDog It may be a bit terse for some people's taste, but the content is all fine. Now also available as a book.

HTMLGoodies This one's been around for ages, and though some of it may be a little dated, it does communicate the fundamentals in a clear and chatty style.

Opera Web Standards Curriculum Not so much a set of tutorials as a readable set of well structured articles about how the web works, with an emphasis on the importance of standards.

W3C.org It might look like something from 1994 and have an academic tone, but the HTML tutorials are all very sound.

W3Schools exceptional resourceIn a word: comprehensive. They claim to be the biggest, and they might be the best. As well as HTML, tutorials on many other web related technologies are included.
