You won't find the likes of Microsoft or Adobe here! We're further towards the budget end of the market, or even free... but that doesn't mean they are not of a high standard.
EditPlus One for the hand coders, a longstanding inexpensive shareware tool for writing HTML, or indeed other coding languages.
FirstPage 2006 This has been around for a while; it comes with a huge array of javascript widgets which can easily be inserted into your code and customized.
HTMLKit Allows hand coding or wysiwyg, this free editor has a good reputation and features a high level of extensibility.
NoteTab This one has been around for ages; a highly respected editor which can be seen as a free notepad replacement, but can also be upgraded to provide sophisticated coding functionality.
Nvu An established WYSIWYG editor with versions also available for Mac and Linux.
PSPad This coding editor can handle a variety of formats, but is pretty good at HTML. And best of all, it's free.
TopStyle
For the dedicated hand coder, TopStyle is an intergrated HTML and CSS editor. Very configurable, it can also be used for scripting, and comes with a variety of colour coding options. Written by Nick Bradbury, the author of the orignal Homesite editor, this is an excellent tool for building a website. Not the cheapest option, but it is a respected product among the professional community.
WeBuilder Inexpensive fully featured editor for HTML, CSS and a whole load of scripting languages.
